mixed berries buttermilk cake

Buttermilk is my new favourite ingredient in a cake! Its perfect if you in mood for something dense, fluffy and not too sweet. And topped with some warm berries gives it a extra bit of tanginess. Baked this one on Sunday for Amanda when she came over for a coffee catch up session. It's from my current favourite food blog Joy the baker. Unfortunately I couldn't use roasted strawberries as they not in season but frozen berries worked just as well!

this time next month...

I would add some chopped walnuts and dark choco bits for extra yumminess:)

Winter getaway

We recently spent another weekend up the west coast at the beautiful fisherman village ‘Paternoster’. There’s something about this place that puts you instantly in holiday mode, I just love it so much! Here are a few snapshots I took along the way...

lunch and coffee at a farm stall we stop at every time we head to the west coast

Roxy needed a weekend away too

Papi and me cleaning up our 'Perlemoen'- a seafood delicacy

all cleaned-up

perfect ending to the day

please don't judge me!

So this post might.. umm... ‘surprise’ a few people since I would normally NEVER share anything to do with sports.. . especially not Rugby of all things! I hope you are all not too disappointed with me! And just to clarify I AM NOT turning into one of those afrikaaner girls with a thick accent who enjoys watching sports with her chummys on the weekend and likes her steak rare buuut since my main reason to start this silly blog in the first place was to share my photography and all the other random things that happen in my life, I thought I must post these photos. As some of you may know one of the main projects at the company I work for is producing a monthly magazine for the stormers (sigh.. I know.. so classy), and since we come up with pretty much all the content the guys often have to go and film these monster Afrikaans men playing their beloved sport. And now that i got my sweet 550D I've been able to assist the guys on the ‘set’ and take some photos for the mag too! Defiantly hasn’t been my favourite ‘subject matter’ but I’ve actually really been enjoying it! I just have to keep reminding myself to appreciate what I do since some other Afrikaaner girly would be very jealous of my job;) And technically this could be the start of my ‘photography’ career (hehe i wish) since I am getting paid for this!!
Last time was especially fun since we had to photograph one of the better looking players and probably tallest person ive ever had to stand next to doing bicep exercises.. hmm not that bad i guess?:) (I must admit i might have blushed just a little taking his photos heehee) And I’m really happy with the result! One of my favourite parts of the process is editing the photos for the mag and the guys at work have been awesome at teaching me different techniques. Ive been learning so much from this experinace and hope to be made more use of a lil photographer assistant in the future:)

moonlight mass

The most interesting experience I’ve ever had on a tuesday night was joining a few other hundred fellow Capetonians on a bike ride through our beautiful town on a full moon! Either hire/borrow/beg or buy your own bike to experience just ONE night on this little adventure! It’s SO worth being caught in the rain,  getting to bed far too late, being dead tired at work the next day, and of course lets not forget  the very painful bum!

It started off a bit shaky (being on a bike for the first time in years is never a good thing and can cause some near fatal accidents) but as soon as you get the hang of riding a bike again it  just puts you in such a happy place! Especially when riding on the Sea point promenade with the west coast on your right and a fresh breeze of ocean in the air. It ended off with a fun ride through Longstreet and the ofcourse a well deserved beer at &Unioun! I recommend anyone who hasn’t done it yet to go on the next ride happening on the 2nd of August! This should defiantly be on the bucket list of things to do in Cape Town.

This rainy weather and our newly renovated cozy kitchen in the cottage is inspiring me to act like a real domestic house wife! So inspired to cook and bake yummy things..jus not sure how long its going to last;) So ive been making the most of it and this sunday I baked my papis favourite Marmorkuchen (marble cake). So sweet how happy it made him! I'll def be baking it again soon!

After a serious baking failure last week (i had a silly moment using a bread recipe to make carrot and walnut muffins) i was determined to make this batch a success! How good do these chocolate chip muffins look?? They are also wheat and gluten free and still eadible.. what a score:)

Also gave me an opportunity to play around and edit images with my new baby:) I'll defiantly be posting more photos soon!
